Kobold' SMG-1 Tactical was designed for tactical operators in collaboration with a group of retired U.S. military specialists. Prior to its release, the SMG-1 Tactical was tested extensively in some of the world's hot spots and underwent similarly gruelling pre-production stress tests as the Polar Surveyor Chronograph, Kobold's flagship wrist instrument for explorers. Like the Polar Surveyor Chronograph, the SMG-1 Tactical features an innovative and highly modified movement based on a reliable Swiss-made caliber. The movement, K.793, enables the display of local time, date and a 24 hour-based second time.
The SMG-1 Tactical, with its PVD-coated titanium case, is a watch of outsized proportions. Its large dial that allows the wearer to easily and unmistakably tell time, even at a glance. In order to accomplish this generously proportioned dial layout, the case of the SMG-1 Tactical had to be styled accordingly; it features an oversized, domed sapphire crystal, and a narrow, unidirectional rotating bezel with count-up minute scale. The case measures 44.3 mm in diameter. In order to prevent the crown from getting caught during an exercise, and in an effort to increase wear comfort, the SMG-1 Tactical has its screw-down crown placed at the 8 o'clock position.
The SMG-1 Tactical comes in a wooden collector's box and on a titanium/PVD Soarway bracelet with flip-lock clasp and integrated overall extension. The bracelet, which features individually screw-locked links, is attached to the case by a set of screw-locked bars. Waterproof to a depth of 1,000 feet, shock-resistant, as well as antimagnetic, the SMG-1 Tactical fulfills the requirements of the stringent regulations for professional diver's watches as set forth by the German Industrial Standards Bureau (DIN).
The SMG-1 Tactical, which is limited to only 50 watches, is available for pre-order only. Delivery is expected to commence in late May 2007.
