The re-designed Polar Surveyor comes in a rugged stainless steel case with a bi-directional rotating bezel. On its matte-finish dial with luminous markers, the watch displays local time, a GMT/UTC-based second time zone, the date and elapsed seconds, minutes and hours via its chronograph function. Worn on multiple expeditions to the North and South Poles, the Polar Surveyor is not only a peerless wrist instrument for explorers, but also the most functional Kobold watch ever built.
The Polar Surveyor is powered by a specially developed caliber, called K.751. It is Kobold’s first completely reworked version of the legendary ETA 7750, known to be one of the world’s most reliable and accurate chronograph movements. In addition to the regular timing and chronograph functions, the Polar Surveyor’s caliber displays a second time zone (24 hours). The 24-hour function is used by professional explorers for communications with the outside world.
Kobold’s Polar Surveyor Chronograph is based on Kobold's much-heralded Soarway case, crafted from a solid block of stainless steel. The re-designed Polar Surveyor features a bi-directional rotating bezel with 24-hour graduation, which sits atop three ceramic ball bearings. The bezel's minute-graduated ratcheting system consists of three ceramic ball bearings, which was found to be more effective than a conventional system using click-springs, as it prevents dirt and freezing moisture from locking up the bezel.
Each Polar Surveyor comes on a corresponding Soarway bracelet with a patented screw-locked system. The watch arrives in a wooden Kobold collector’s box with room for two extra timepieces. A professional-grade canvas strap is included in the set, as is a pair of screw-drivers to change bands.
